A county wide charity based in Wellingborough supporting unpaid carers are currently running a new service in which participants are taught to monitor breathing, temperature, urine and pulse in order to catch signs of infections early and provide intervention before the infection fully takes holds. The aim is to prevent hospital admissions particularly in older people and those with COPD.

   Northampton Museum looking for volunteers    7 February, 2017

Northampton Museum & Art Gallery is looking for volunteers to help them get ready for the expansion work planned to start later this year.

The Museum is hoping to recruit a number of Collections Assistant volunteers to assist the team with tasks such as taking objects off display, checking their condition, taking photographs and packing the items as well as identifying objects for future display when the Museum reopens.

   Consultation on Wootton Library opening hours    22 November, 2016

The current library is small, and has very limited space. Following public consultation on the relocation to its current location, the agreed opening hours were extended, over and above the normal amount for a comparable library of a similar size. Since opening at the new site, extensive hourly visitor counts have been undertaken, monitoring exactly how many people use the library, and for how long. The findings of these surveys indicate that the current usage of the library does not warrant the extended opening times, as such, a more proportionate and affordable schedule of opening hours is being proposed.

The Northampton Volunteer Car Scheme is a community transport scheme taking the elderly and disabled to medically related appointments.  They cover residents who live in the borough of Northampton but can take them to appointments further afield.  All of their drivers are volunteers and they rely on grants and donations to fund the scheme.

   Election of a Police and Crime Commissioner for the NORTHAMPTONSHIRE POLICE AREA    31 March, 2016

1.     An Election is to be held of a Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire.

2.     Forms of nomination for the Police and Crime Commissioner Election may be obtained from the Police Area Returning Officer at the Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, Northants, NN15 7QX.

3.     Nomination papers must be delivered to the Police Area Returning Officer, Municipal Offices, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, Northants, NN15 7QX on any working day after the date of this notice but no later than 4 pm on Thursday, 7th April 2016.

4.     If the election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 5th May 2016.

5.     A deposit of £5,000 must be paid for each candidate by the deadline for delivery of nominations either in legal tender, by banker’s draft or with the Police Area Returning Officer’s consent by electronic transfer of funds.

6.     Applications to be included in the register of electors must reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer by Monday 18 April 2016, if they are to be effective for the election.

7.     Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer, Northampton Borough Council, The Guildhall, St Giles Square, Northampton, NN1 1DE by 5 pm on Tuesday, 19th April 2016.

8.     New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Northampton Borough Council, The Guildhall, St Giles Square, Northampton, NN1 1DE by 5 pm on Tuesday, 26th April 2016.

9.     Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on grounds of physical incapacity or for work/service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Northampton Borough Council, The Guildhall, St Giles Square, Northampton, NN1 1DE by 5 pm on Thursday, 5th May 2016.  The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5 pm on Tuesday, 26th April 2016.  To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5 pm on Tuesday, 26th April 2016

   St Edmunds Church Awarded Best War Memorial - Internal by Royal British Legion    9 February, 2016

The Royal British Legion, Northamptonshire County Branch held a competition throughout last summer to find the best War Memorial (internal & external) in the County.  They announced a new category for villages where there were no British Legion activities and Hardingstone Parish Council agreed to put forward the two War Memorials situated in the village at St Edmunds Church and on The Green.

The Parish Council have agreed to install new benches around the village.

We are currently awaiting permission on a couple of these, and we will then purchase the benches and get them installed.  Maps of proposed locations are on the noticeboards around the village.

   Highways updates    4 February, 2016

Highways have been to look at the bollards outside the post office and have agreed to add another bollard to fill the gap left by the moving of the lamp posts.  This will be scheduled after March.

   Planning Update    21 January, 2016

Following a Planning Committee meeting at Northampton Borough Council on 19th January 2016 to look at application N/2015/1471 – planned extension to Hardingstone County Primary School, Martins Lane, It was voted to object to the application on traffic issues by an overwhelming majority.  Borough recommendation to Northampton County Council is to work with the academy and parish council with a view to ensure appropriate successful traffic mitigation plans are in place before proceeding with the extension.

   Pressures continue at Northampton's hospitals    12 January, 2016

Kettering General Hospital and Northampton General Hospital continue to experience extremely high numbers of attendees at their Accident and Emergency departments.  People reporting to the A&E department with minor injuries and ailments are being warned they face longer waits than normal as more serious cases are prioritised, and are being urged to use alternative NHS services where appropriate such as NHS 111, pharmacies, alongside seeing their GP in the normal way. The Corby Urgent Care should only be used if their condition cannot be seen by a GP or pharmacist and is clearly very serious.

   Art Event at Delapre Abbey 27th October    20 October, 2015

The Delapre Abbey Preservation Trust is inviting people to visit the restoration and create their own artworks to celebrate this exciting time in the Abbey’s history. Working with professional artists, people will create a record of the restoration work through photography, painting, drawing and print making which will then be displayed on the hoarding and in a travelling exhibition.
