The Royal British Legion, Northamptonshire County Branch held a competition throughout last summer to find the best War Memorial (internal & external) in the County. They announced a new category for villages where there were no British Legion activities and Hardingstone Parish Council agreed to put forward the two War Memorials situated in the village at St Edmunds Church and on The Green.
Early in the New Year Reverend Beverley Hollins was informed by the British Legion that the War Memorial in St Edmunds had been chosen as the Best War Memorial – Internal for Northamptonshire. Creaton village won the Brian Walker Shield for Best War Memorial – External.
On Saturday 14 January Parish Councillor Gill Greaves attended the British Legion County conference at County Hall and accepted the Cup from Mrs Julie Walker on behalf of Hardingstone. The Cup, which is in memory of the late Brian Walker, will be held in St Edmunds Church for 12 months before being handed back to the British Legion next January in time for the next conference.
All are welcome to call into St Edmunds and view the War Memorial at the rear of the Church – St Edmunds is open, in addition to published services, during daylight hours Monday – Friday.
